As a Cane Corso breeder, we want to ensure that our dogs are healthy and free from any genetic conditions that could affect their quality of life. One way to do this is through genetic testing, which can identify whether your dogs carry specific genetic mutations that are associated with certain health conditions.
Recently, we received the excellent results of our Cane Corso dogs’ genetic testing. Lamborghini, Ciara, and Mona all received “clear” results for all of the genetic mutations tested for. This means that our dogs do not carry any of the genetic variants associated with these health conditions.
Here’s a breakdown of what each of the genetic mutations tested for represents, and what it means for Lamborghini, Ciara, and Mona to be “clear” for these mutations.
CDDY: This mutation is associated with a type of hip dysplasia called “cranial cruciate ligament rupture.” Dogs that are clear for this mutation are at low risk for developing this condition.
CDPA: This mutation is associated with a skin disorder called “color dilution alopecia.” Dogs that are clear for this mutation are at low risk for developing this condition.
MH: This mutation is associated with a muscle disorder called “malignant hyperthermia.” Dogs that are clear for this mutation are at low risk for developing this condition.
HUU: This mutation is associated with a metabolic disorder called “hyperuricosuria.” Dogs that are clear for this mutation are at low risk for developing this condition.
DM EXON 2: This mutation is associated with a neurological disorder called “degenerative myelopathy.” Dogs that are clear for this mutation are at low risk for developing this condition.
CMR1: This mutation is associated with an eye disorder called “canine multifocal retinopathy.” Dogs that are clear for this mutation are at low risk for developing this condition.
DSRA: This mutation is associated with a skin disorder called “dermoid sinus.” Dogs that are clear for this mutation are at low risk for developing this condition.
These excellent results suggest that Lamborghini, Ciara, and Mona are unlikely to develop these specific conditions due to these particular genetic mutations.
It’s important to note that genetic testing cannot predict all health issues that a dog may develop. However, these clear results indicate that your dogs are not carriers of these particular genetic mutations associated with these health conditions.
Overall, genetic testing can be a valuable tool for breeders to help ensure that their dogs are healthy and free from certain genetic conditions. It’s also important to provide your dogs with proper healthcare, nutrition, and exercise to promote their overall health and wellbeing.
If you’re considering genetic testing for your own dogs, it’s important to consult with a veterinarian or genetic counselor to determine which tests are appropriate for your breed and to interpret the results accurately.
